Internship Program Feature: Chelsea Taylor

August 1, 2014 |

Chelsea-TaylorMy name is Chelsea Taylor and I am a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. I have a minor in Business, as well as Leadership and Communication. I will be graduating in May of 2015.

My project is The Value of a Travel Management Company. There are two elements to my project. First, I am looking at the top reasons a client values a TMC. The four critical components include:

  • Duty of Care and Emergency Services
  • Financial Controls
  • Account Management and Consulting
  • Data and Technology

Second, I am looking at the top 200 accounts of Travel and Transport and Ultramar Travel Management. I am dividing those accounts into their particular industry. From there, I am researching those industries and determining how these clients’ needs differ and what they specifically look for in a travel management company. Furthermore, I am determining the percentage that Travel and Transport contributes to a certain industry compared to Ultramar. I have designated the following industries:

  • Architecture/Construction/Engineering
  • Education
  • Energy and Utilities
  • Financial Services
  • Food
  • Healthcare/Biotechnology
  • Insurance
  • Law Firms
  • Managing and Consulting
  • Manufacturing
  • Retail and Consumer Products
  • Technology/Telecommunications
  • Transportation
  • Miscellaneous

Internship-program-travel-and-transportI have always been interested in working for a large corporation. This internship has provided me with excellent references and connections, as well as experience with a reputable company. I was introduced to numerous departments and I received a much better understanding of the travel industry itself, as well as the corporate side to this branch of hospitality. This internship is an excellent start for Travel and Transport to recruit a younger generation to fill positions.

My plans after graduation include moving back to the Omaha Metro area and working in the corporate sector. I also have interest in nonprofit organizations.
